I spent more time today putting together an art packet (cover letter, resume and work samples) for a gallery. I don’t know if you are aware of this but for every art gallery there are over 1,500 artists trying to get representation. So you can imagine how difficult it is to find a gallery to carry your work. In an effort to set myself apart from other artists I’ve built a three dimensional art packet instead of a paper or digital packet. I plan on hand delivering my custom designed box to the gallery. I wish I could tell you I’m excited about it but in reality I’m terrified. I have a folder, physical and in email, filled with rejection letters. Of course I’ve received acceptance letters throughout my career but the number of rejections far exceeds those.
I’m going to cross my fingers, hold my head high and keep trying. Before Stephen King became popular his first book, “Carrie”, received 30 rejections. King threw away his manuscript but his wife fished it out of the trash and encouraged him to resubmit and well, the rest is history.
