And so it begins! 30 paintings in 30 days, day 1! I’m excited to use this opportunity to create more pieces for my Nature Curated series. I’ve been looking for beautiful and unique pieces of driftwood, ocean rock, pine cones and sea shells for the past year. These objects are from all over Oregon, from the coast to the forest. The piece I created today is a smooth piece of driftwood in a layer of robins egg blue wax. I chose the color to reference the color of the ocean in Yachats, Oregon where the driftwood is from.

The NATURE CURATED series captures the essence of place by encapsulating carefully chosen mementos nature has seemingly left behind in a thick bed of pigmented encaustic wax. To create these paintings the artist explores the ocean shore and forest floor to find the perfect, unique objects (shells, pine cones, driftwood and stones) to embed in a luscious layer of wax. All of these natural objects tells the story of its origin, like the smooth edges on driftwood illustrates the journey it took undulating back and forth against the rough ocean shore. Each three-dimensional fine art painting is unique, signed by the artist, ready to hang and includes the place of origin.
